The highest grade shall receive 4 points and the lowest grades shall receive 0 points using the following evaluative symbols:. Grade mode options allow students to explore various fields of study and broaden their knowledge, particularly outside their major field, without jeopardizing their grade point average. Courses in which such an option exists will be designated by the Division Dean in consultation with appropriate members of the division faculty. Students should consult the catalog of the college to which they plan to transfer for its regulations before selecting this option.
Appears in the grade column, along with a default grade, and indicates incomplete academic work for unforeseeable, emergency, and justifiable reasons. A final grade will be assigned by the faculty member when the stipulated work has been completed and evaluated. In the event that the work is not completed within the prescribed time period, the default grade previously determined by the faculty member will be entered in the permanent record.
The Incomplete must be made up no later than one year following the end of the term in which it was assigned. Established College procedures may be utilized to request a time extension in cases involving unusual circumstances. The I symbol is not used in calculating units attempted nor for grade points. The staff will be following this policy and will not accept Incomplete removals that extend beyond the one year deadline.
Any special circumstances need to be brought to the attention of the Office of the Registrar at x Incompletes may not be changed if the student has graduated. Students who would ordinarily receive a grade of Incomplete should receive a grade of RP in specific courses that extend beyond one academic term.
No other grades or grading symbols may be used. Those students who have officially withdrawn from a class will be listed on the grade roster with a withdrawal grade of "W". This grade can not be changed. A "W" is an administrative grade for which the Office of the Registrar must have backup documentation in order for it to be valid.
When the required work is completed, the instructor will fill out Correction of Grade or Removal of Incomplete form and submit it to the department office. The President or designee may authorize extension of established time limits. It indicates that work is in progress and has been evaluated and found to be satisfactory to date, but that the assignment of a precise grade must await completion of additional work.
Work is to be completed within a stipulated time period. It carries no connotation of quality of student performance and is not used in the calculation of GPA. It is used when, in the opinion of the instructor, completed assignments or course activities or both were insufficient to enable evaluation of academic performance.
The instructor must report the last known date of attendance by the student.
