The Problem: Many, many users claim that the business days that Game Fly says it takes to receive an old rental and send out a new one is more like 2 weeks or sometimes more — thus limiting the ceiling of games you can play to 2 a month at best.
Look, this is not the time or place to rehash the console vs PC argument or the admittedly hilarious meme war that this argument has spawned for years. Which in online years I think counts as a multi-generational feud at this point.
But if you love PC gaming or are at least willing to jump on the PC as opposed to your Nintendo Switch, PS4, or XBox One then aside from the occasional console only release…why would you do anything else? That limit of one or two games at a time is going to rustle the feathers of really avid gamers who have a lot of hours to game.
Especially with a big enough library. In those cases the GameFly subscription is not worth it and that makes sense since this is not the ideal customer base for GameFly anyway. Yeah, if you are limited because of slow mail to 1 or 2 titles a month tops all of a sudden that monthly fee looks way too high. Consoles are coming out with their own version of a digital rental service which stamps out the need to get it from a third party in many situations.
If you own an XBox then chances are pretty good that you use Game Pass if you use any game rental services at all. There are plenty of serious gamers who have both consoles and both of those services because they make perfect sense. As long as a gamer has the internet connection to consistently connect these are undeniably great rental options for Xbox and PS4 players.
Which clearly leaves any 3rd party providers out in the cold. Especially considering how insane the Steam sales can get, and how many great independently developed games they give access to. Worthless, now I am disputing the charges with my card company, and sent a well worded on the verge of being beyond Curt, reply email. Very bad company with terrible customer service. They don't care about the customer at all. First off, they charge a lot for this service, so I do expect decent customer service, but they are combative, rude and simply don't care. You have to wait days, sometimes a week for them to ship the game, then once they ship it, you have to wait at least 3 days to receive it.
So in one instance, I waited a week to receive a game, didn't receive it, they finally let me report it missing, then I waited 2 weeks for the next game, I checked my game queue, and it was mysteriously suddenly empty. I told Gamefly about this and they just told me to add another game to the queue and they would ship it out when they can get to it. I requested some sort of compensation, perhaps 2 weeks complimentary to make up for the terrible service, but nope, nothing, they just don't care.
Avoid at all costs. Just buy the games you want. Get a PSN subscription and get games when they go on sale there. Just don't waste your money on this terrible, greedy corporation. They don't deserve a penny. One time I had to wait over 2 weeks to receive a game in my queue that was a new game.
