The 'Space of Waste' building, which will be temporarily located in Tudor Square in Sheffield and will be open to the public from 12 November , has been designed and constructed using waste obtained from the Why Waste website.
The architecture students at Sheffield, who are all in their fifth and sixth years of study, designed the new building as part of the University's innovative Live Projects scheme. Organised every year by the School of Architecture, Live Projects are strategic projects which give architecture students at the University the chance to work with real people in real time. Sarah Hunt, one of the architecture students involved in the project, said: "The construction industry is one of the UK's most wasteful.
By taking an unconventional approach to the design process, we were forced to rethink the way in which materials can be used.
Architects and designers have the potential to divert a lot of waste from landfill and create building and objects that are both beautiful and original. The important part. The ice. Hard ice, which I like. SHould always be able to skate in a T-shirt in an ice rink and I could.
They do have a problem with condensation, which, despite the rink showing signs of being edged, still had a large build up of ice around the barriers where the meet the ice, creating trip hazards for skaters who skate close to the edge. No marshalls on the ice at all. Clearly safety not a priority. Overall, nice enough to skate on, attrocious to look at.
Oh yeah, parking. There are car parks close by but many are permit only during the day and the rest get filled up fast. Took 38 minutes driving in a circle to get a spot. Skip to main content.
